What does Classlist do?

Welcome to Classlist: the place for safe, secure parent-to-parent communication. Classlist offers a number of features that will make your life as a parent easier, from arranging lifts to simply letting you share contact details with other parents at your children's schools.

What is Classlist?

Classlist is a secure digital platform that helps Schools, PTAs and parents to connect with each other. This can be to run events (with or without tickets), to set up specific interest groups so parents from across the school can connect or simply to get in touch with other parents.

Successfully in use by parents at more than 1000 schools. Classlist acts as a ‘virtual school gate’, where you can make friends, ask for advice and recommendations, as well as arrange play-dates, school lift shares, fundraising activities and social events. Parents can also use the listings button to buy and sell personal items, such as second-hand musical instruments or to find a babysitter. And all of these services are available on one easy-to-use, modern platform.

While we’re proud of the app’s multi-feature versatility, Classlist’s key function is to provide a directory of class parents in electronic format so that parents can contact each other without being left out. Parents can decide how much detail they want to share with other parents and Classlist is data protection registered and an approved supplier to PTA UK.

• A way to easily receive notifications from your PTA and/or school
• Easily accessible contact details for other parents at your school, if they have shared them

During sign-up parents will be asked to add their pupils names to the site. This step is important for two reasons; firstly it helps Administrators at the school approve people quickly and effectively, secondly it sets parents up in the Classlist Groups system. 

How do I use it?

When you register you must agree to our Community Guidelines which are intended to make sure everyone has an enjoyable experience. Apart from that Classlist is very flexible and you can use it  however it suits you and your school.

When you log into Classlist you will see the Parent Board. This is the most active area of Classlist and displays content added by other parents and your site Administrators (often the Parents' Association). You will be able to post to, and see posts from, other parents in the same groups as you (ie whole school, class etc). Announcements from your PTA and posts to the Marketplace will also appear here.

Here is a typical post viewed on the Parent Board via the mobile app: only the parents who have joined the football club group will see this message. 

Only post to the people you need

Classlist offers multiple options for communicating with parents so you can always aim your message at the right audience. Here are a few of the most common:

• Creating a Post on the Parent Board. This is a quick and effective way to communicate to the whole school or a ready-made group of parents. Posts can contain text, emojis and pictures.
• Sending a Private Message. You can message an individual parent or add several names to make a message group.
• Selling, giving away or buying via the Marketplace. This works like a virtual noticeboard or listings page: you can also post recommendations and wanted requests, such as your opinion of a new film release or that you need a regular babysitter.

Important: by default posts to the marketplace and the whole school only get emailed once a week in the Classlist weekly digest, so if you need a babysitter the same day try posting to your class or year group instead!

• Setting up an event. You can organise events ranging from your child's birthday party to a parents' night out. You can even arrange payment for tickets or restaurant deposits - all you need is a Stripe account.
