Classlist at our School
For a number of years now, we have had a system in place in school which enables parents to give permission for their contact details to be shared with their child's Form Rep and then circulated amongst the parents of other pupils in the year group. This can be useful for many reasons, such as distributing information about events run by the Form Reps or for sharing lifts with people who live nearby.
However, due to recent and forthcoming changes in Data Protection Legislation, we need to change the way that we protect our data. From September therefore, we are introducing a new online system called Classlist, which will simplify the whole process and give parents more control over how much data they wish to share. Our school’s Classlist site will enable you to contact other parents safely and securely and to keep up to date with events organised by the Form Reps or Parent Association. It is a UK site that has been set up by parents for parents and is completely free for parents to use. As a school, we have checked where and how the data will be stored and are happy with the levels of security in place.
The online system allows you to enter, manage and update the personal information that you wish to share with your child's year group. It means that you have full control over which of your contact details are shared, for example, just an email address or your full contact details. You can even choose to keep your email address hidden. All requests to join Classlist will be approved by the school or Form Reps before they are validated.
Our parent community is much more than an online address book. By using Classlist, there is scope for parents to set up or invite others to events, join discussions or find other parents who live nearby, as well hearing from your Form Rep or the PA. Please note that you will still receive mailings from the school in the usual way. Classlist is purely for parent to parent communication.
You can join now by visiting https://www.classlist.com and searching for our School. After your request has been validated, you can log in and use the site, either through a web-browser or using an app. There is an iOS app and an Android app available. We believe that Classlist will help to create a welcoming and engaging community amongst our parents and would encourage you to be a part of it. As Classlist will replace and enhance the previous contact list system, if you are an existing parent please note that we will no longer be issuing these lists.
If you have any questions about the system, please contact email@example.com.
