Classlist is a leading tool for building strong school-parent parent communities, improving interaction parent to parent, school to parent and parent to school. Despite this, many remain fearful or skeptical of 'social media'. Sometimes this can be a member of the PTA, another parent or even the headteacher.
Often, these issues break down into just a few categories:
- Slanderous content
Our mission at Classlist is to provide you with the best possible tools for creating a safe, secure and friendly environment in which a community can flourish. As such, we continually strive to improve our service to remove any and all negative experiences.
We have not yet had any problems regarding slander or disruptive behavior on Classlist for a number of reasons.
- The name of the school at the top of Classlist serves as a reminder that the content should be 'School Friendly', users of other social media sites do not always create the association.
- Parents know that the PTA can monitor content.
- Ambassadors can remove posts if necessary and inappropriate behavior can result in being blocked from Classlist.
- Classlist acts as a closed school community. There is no anonymity and each parent knows one another. Posted content cannot be found in a Google search.
Each parent agrees to our Terms and Conditions when they sign up, and this includes membership behavioral guidelines. These state that Classlist must not be used to post slanderous content about the school, parents or members of staff.
Classlist Ambassadors also have the ability to monitor all content posted by Classlist users, and have the power to remove any content deemed unfit in accordance with our rules. This means that if any content ever requires removal, the ambassador simply explain that:
'The content you have posted breaks Classlist guidelines'
'I found your content offensive'
This process distances the Administrator from the blame, instead placing the burden on our shoulders, thereby removing any potential hostility.
Classlist does not want to be a platform used to harm schools, but rather benefit them. We offer the ability to fund-raise by selling advertising on Classlist, for which we share the revenue 50:50. A school in Yorkshire has earmarked this revenue for a technology fund. The head, who began with a skeptical opinion, is delighted!
Security is as big a concern for us as it is for you. As parents ourselves, we understand how vital it is we keep our children safe. For this reason, every parent that signs up to Classlist must be approved by an already existing member.
Our data is kept on secure servers that use the same security technology as world-leading banks, so you can rest assured that everything remains secure.
