Classlist is super-flexible, allowing you to talk with other parents in ways that are relevant for you, without either blanketing everyone with mass communication or inadvertently excluding people. You can communicate via automatically populated 'school' groups, in tailor-made parent groups or on an individual basis, according to what audience you need to reach with each different communication.
Write a Public Post
1. You can post on the parent board to parents in your 'school groups', ie your child/children's 'Class' or 'Year', or in any parent groups you are in. Simply write your message in the text box and select which audience you want for your post from the drop down list. You can access the post function from the Parent Board page and the Groups page. Everyone in the group you select will be able to see this post immediately, but they may or may not receive a notification about it depending on their personal settings. Find out more about how other members are notified when someone posts. You can also add a comment to someone else's post, to an announcement sent by an admin member, or to an event. It's easy to delete your own post or comment after you have posted it.
NB: The ability to post to the Whole School is an optional feature which can be turned on or off by your admin team. Read more here.
If you have an admin account you can send an Announcement to any class or group, even if you do not have a child in that group. You need to be in the green Admin Mode to do this.
Send a Private Message
2. You can use the private messages function; this is just like sending an email but you don't need to know the other parent's email address. This is accessed from the main navigation or via the speech bubble icon which appears in lots of places eg on a post to the Parent Board (see image below 'message Adam'). If you want to create a new message on the app, simply click the + menu to find a shortcut. You can choose specific individuals to receive your message, you can message more than one person at a time, and you can message parents not in your year group.
Sell, give away or buy stuff on the Marketplace
3. You can use the Marketplace to post a listing. Listings are not sent out straight away but are grouped together in the weekly digest which is emailed to everyone on a Thursday. Again you can select which group receives your listing post.
NB: Classlist notifies members about different types of content in different ways, so that you don't get bombarded with non-urgent emails! Click here to see a table of how each type of content is notified to other members.
