Teachers communicating on Classlist - options

Teachers can use Classlist to communicate with parents in any class, year group or parent group on Classlist.

Announcements are the best way for teachers to reach the parents in a class - simply choose the classes or groups you want to reach, add a title and send your message. 

Parents will be notified by email and/or the app depending on their preference.

You can add images, links and attachments, and format the fonts etc.

Youtube videos can be shared by pasting in the url.

Admin status

To send Announcements teachers need admin status on Classlist - either as Staff Admins or Community Reps.  See here for more info on which admin role to use for teachers to communicate.

The difference is that parents can communicate with Community Reps via private messages (because that is a parent-type account), while they can't communicate with Staff Admins via private messages as it is an admin-only account.   

We do not recommend that teachers actually join their class's parent group on Classlist, as they will receive all parent posts to the group.   Announcements allow them to communicate with the group without joining it.  Instead we recommend Staff join a yeargroup called Staff.

Private messages

If you have a parent account on Classlist as a teacher, you can communicate with parents via private messages (eg to receive a document).
