There are a number of different places on Classlist where you can add a photo. How the photo will show may be different in different places and on different screen sizes.
We recommend keeping the most important part of your image in the centre as the edges may be cropped to fit different parts of the app. We don't recommend adding words to images.
Here is an overview
- Event Cover image - Square, edges slightly cropped on event page
- Groups - Cover image is square, cropped to circle in groups list
- Listings - Square
- Posts - Displayed as taken (landscape or portrait), but cropped to square in the feed
- Announcements - Displayed as taken (landscape or portrait), but cropped to square in the feed
Events
Our in app cropping tool will let you crop any image to square. This is then shown at the top of the event page. In additional it is used in the calendar events list.
For events the image is a 1:1 ratio square.
Max image size is 8MB. Recommended 500 pixels in png, svg or img format.
This is how the photo will look in the events list and in the event details pages on the app.

Posts in groups
For posts the photo pixel ratio is 1.5 to 1. ie 6:4. or 600 x 400.
When viewing a post, photos will be displayed landscape or portrait depending on how they were taken - they are cropped to square in the feed.
Groups
For group icons the photo is best to be square, as a circular image is taken from the centre of the image for the groups list.
Announcements
Max image file size is 8MB.
You can upload up to 7 photos in one go, each of up to 8MB.
You can then upload another 7 photos, and another 7, to the same announcement.
[Bear in mind that the announcement will show with 'Read more' to parents if it is too long, so not all images will be displayed in the activity feed, but parents can expand the announcement to see them all.]
