Mandatory fields in the online registration forms are indicated with an asterisk (*): if you cannot see a 'Next' button or are unable to progress to the next screen, it is probably because a mandatory field is incomplete.
Important: Internet Explorer is not supported. If you find you cannot proceed past the "add child" page in registering, it may be because you are using IE. Please try registering on a mobile phone instead.

Which best describes you?
You must have a connection with a school in order to register with its existing Classlist site, or to set up a new Classlist site there. Each Classlist site provides a secure closed platform unique to your school.
If you are a parent or official guardian responsible for a child/children at your school you should select 'Parent'. You can be a parent, guardian, step parent or grandparent; generally anyone who is listed as an official contact in the school's records. We do not make provision for childminders, au pairs etc because restricting access only to parents/guardians helps to ensure good data security. For simplicity this article will refer to 'parents' and 'your child' to cover all categories.
The 'Parent' option covers registering at an existing Classlist site and setting up a new site as a parent. Most people who set up a new school site are acting on behalf of a group such as their PTA or Friends Association, but you can still set up a Classlist site as a parent where there is no such group.
If you have no children at the school where you want to set up an account, but you are connected in an official capacity such as a member of staff or a governor, select 'School Leader'. There is a separate article about registering as a member of staff.
Find your School
When you start typing in your school's name, the system begins to search the database, prioritising schools which match your location as well as the name you typed in. If your school has already got a Classlist site, the name of the school should appear in the list below the text entry box. It is a very large database covering schools across the world as well as in the UK, so there may be a number of matches for your school name (saints' names are especially common!). If you can't see your school in the list when you scroll down, tap on "Can't find your school". This will allow you to enter a place name location as well as the name of the school to refine the search. The database will bring up the best match, as well as other Classlist schools in/near that location. If your school is still not listed please contact our support team by tapping on the pink help button at the bottom left of your screen.
Registering at an existing Classlist school: When you find and click on your school, you will be shown a box with the name, school logo (if it has been uploaded by the person who set up your school on Classlist) and the name and photo of your school's Classlist Ambassador. This is the person who set up your schools Classlist site, and it will probably be someone you recognise if they are a prominent PTA member. You can confirm yes this is my school or no to go back and search again.
Are you the first? If your school does not yet have a Classlist account, don't worry, it's easy and quick to set up and you will become the Classlist Ambassador for your school! Just tap 'Set up your school' and continue to create your personal account. After that you can enter data for the whole school or just for one or two year groups at this stage if you prefer. You can appoint more Ambassadors or admin members to help you as soon as you have set up your site.
If you don't want to be the Ambassador but you think your school would benefit from a Classlist site, you can recommend to another person (maybe the PTA chair, or a member of staff) that they set it up, using the links provided for email, Facebook etc.
Create your account
We need your full name, a valid email and phone number, and your connection with the school. This is so that we can verify your account and keep your Classlist site secure. You can choose whether to keep this information private or share it with other members when your account is verified. The default setting is for other members of your child's year and class to be able to view contact details. We will never share or sell your personal data to third parties such as advertisers. Read more about data protection here.
Add your child, plus their class/year group.
Your Classlist account will be based around your child/children, therefore the child's full name and your relationship to them must be provided. You will be visible to other parents as the parent (or guardian, step parent etc) of your child, so their real name is required in order to maintain trust within your school community.
You also need to add a class and year group for your child, so that you are assigned into the correct groups on your school's site. If you can't see the right class/year for your child, you can choose 'other' or 'I am not sure' during registration. You will be able to edit this later.
If you have more than one child at the school, enter their details one at a time, then click on 'Tap to add another child' on the following confirmation screen.
Contact details: your address and phone number
If you are the first to set up your school's site we need your contact details so that we can get in touch with you if necessary.
If you are registering at an existing Classlist school this information is optional. At this point you can add another family member's contact details if you want, and invite them to join Classlist. You can also choose whether or not to enable your approximate location to be displayed on the Parent Map.
Add your profile photo
If you are the first to set up your school, you are required to add a photo before you can proceed. This is because it helps other parents joining your Classlist site to be confident that the site is genuine; even if they don't recognise you, at least they know that a real person from their school has set up the site, and they can look out for you if they want to speak to you.
If you are joining an existing Classlist site we would still encourage you to add a photo for similar reasons, but it is not mandatory.
