UK Charities may be able to claim Gift Aid when a donation is made by a tax paying individual. There are a number of rules around what counts as a donation, the tax status of the individual and the declaration they need to fill in so that gift aid can be claimed. More details can be found on the gift aid page of the government website.
You can use Classlist events to collect information, and this includes Gift Aid declarations for donations. Please refer to the government guidance to check what questions you need to ask and to confirm that the money collected will qualify for gift aid.
NB: It is your responsibility to ensure that the money you are collecting is eligible for Gift Aid. Classlist does not take any responsibility for this.
There are 2 options for collecting gift aid declarations on Classlist:
- You have the option to 'ask guests questions' when you add tickets* to a community event. Parents can fill out the Gift Aid declaration questions when they donate. Then you can simply download the spreadsheet of ticket purchases and that will have all the parent Gift Aid responses. Please note - any questions added here will be asked for each ticket* purchased.
*ticket types we offer are:- free, paid, suggested donation or donation not specified.
- If your event is more complex, where parents may buy multiple tickets or types of ticket, and you don't want them to have to repeat their answers you could use a dedicated survey tool such as survey monkey, doodle poll or google forms to collect the information you need. You can add a link to the survey in the event description.
More information on Gift Aid declarations can be found here. Please note you should include all the requirements in your questions, including address. In addition we suggest you even ask the donor to give their name as they may use a different name for tax purposes than on Classlist.
